Who Is Kerosene Komedy

By: Arvon Bacon

Just a way of life and a dream from a kid, now a man, from the gritty streets of Buffalo, New York who found his passion at an early age. Fully submerging himself in the ground breaking culture we all respect as Hip Hop. DJ’ing, battle rapping, break dancing, and graffiti.

Synonymous to other kids growing up in New York in the early 80’s, looking up to MC’s such as: LL Cool J, Heavy D and Big Pun. Kerosene, aka Larry Donaldson wanted to start his reputation in his neighborhood as the next up.

But Donaldson wasn’t just a man for the blood pumping braggadocios live street performances. He shared with us that he’s a word smith first. “When I was in school before I got to deep into Hip-Hop, I always loved sentence structure and word play”, said Donaldson. “Being able to put together a sentence or a paragraph that would dumbfound my peers,or be profound to my friends is what I liked. I think I’m more of a nerd on the down low,” he continued.

While being a student of gab, Kerosene did not shy away from the game, throwing words at another artist’s egos is like darts. He shares that he was actually the cream of the crop.

“I use to kill em – I was the best rapper in my city – they use to bring dudes to my house just to battle me. They’d say I got this dude from school 56, they bring them to the house and I’d chew them up”, he said

Maturing into a young man, now able to grasp the ugly truths of the capitalistic systems, the young artist began to add more thought provoking substance to his poems.

Having a talent for putting together entendres for rhymes made it a more natural transition into the comedy faction, which is where his name Kerosene was born.

Now that you know that foundation of the man, stay tuned for our behind the scenes look at Kerosene in our “Tell Your Story” series to hear from his lips how he has overcome so much in life, and still shoots for the stars. And oh yeah high level nuggets will be scattered throughout the film, so GET YOUR PADS OUT!
